Team Nation - Sid Shirer
Job Position: Evening Studio Floor Director/Production Assistant
Known on the air as: Celestial Expert Sid Shirer
Hometown: Elk City, OK
Hidden talents (besides being able to change studio light in a minute flat!): Drawing, photography, mechanical drawing/drafting, writing, teaching myself guitar
Inspiration: The late Carl Sagan
Goal: To start certification process for pilot’s license (soloed in a Cessna 152 on 16th birthday).
Family: Mom-Marty, Sister-Trish
The Stars: My interest in astronomy took off when I bought my first telescope and I saw the planet Jupiter and its four large moons. This was the summer of 1985. I learned the constellations and names of the brightest stars on my own. I would say that 90% of what I know I’m self taught. I volunteered at SPAR Planetarium for 13-years, teaching astronomy and telling stories of the night sky to school kids.
The RC Planes: I’ve been around radio control planes most of my life. My dad built and flew them and I have pictures of me standing next to him and a “new” plane at the age of 3. I got my first r/c kit when I was 7 or 8 and the first time I flew it, I was hooked! Like my dad, I build kits and fly for the enjoyment. Currently, I own about 20 planes. When I was 13, I designed and built my own plane from scratch. Flying R/C is an escape from the day-to-day worries of life.

Well if you say that “I have never worked with a more professional, respectful person in all my life.” about Sid, then I can only imagine what you are going to say about me! Sid is a great person to work with and I know that I don’t have to worry when he is in the studio. It makes my job as a director much easier and less stressfull. Now if I could just say that about some of the anchors I work with…Sherri! Hazel and Jimmy need to hang out with Sid in the studio one evening and learn the ropes!…SID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sid - aka “Sid Vicious” and “Little Buddy”, not to be confused with AKA. Don’t say hi to AKA, Colleen, it will only encourage him.

Sid rocks, and I’ll tell you why. Even though I’m considered “LOW” maintenance (insert laughter here) around the ‘ol KTBS 3 studios, Sid is always good to me. Especially when I ask him to move my camera 20 times… when we’re :10 seconds out from the show! Thanks Sid!

Sid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What would I do with Paul without you there to understand? Trish (sister), you are lucky. Sid is THE best! I have a bell on my desk. We ring it not only when Sid appears, but whenever his name is mentioned! Thanks for all you do, Sid. Hazel and Jimmy couldn’t ask for a better uncle!

I thought it was you by your bio. I was just in Bossier at a Battlewings game for the 4th and started thinking about everyone I should have graduated with and started searching. Hoping to catch up. I believe Sherri gave you an email I sent to her. Email when you have a chance.

Hi Sid,
Don’t know if you are interested but you became a Grandad on 12 September 2008. A little girl, Ava Grace. Let me know if you want to contact Maggie, if not I will leave you alone.
