Safety first!
This is KTBS Operations Manager Trey Lankford modeling one of the recent federally mandated safety vests we, as reporters, are being told to wear if we report within 150-feet of a federally-aided highway. It’s tuff readin’, but if you want more, go here. Â
Of course, we all want to be safe and we want that for our fellow workers, but some of us in the newsroom couldn’t help but think about how viewers might sit in their living rooms discussing the vests and such instead of listening to what we’re reporting.Â
And why not, while we as a society are making money for attorneys and those who file suit, extend those safety guidelines to include parking lots? Lots of unsafe things happen there.
As I write, I’m wearing one of those vests, safety goggles, a helmet and knee and elbow pads.Â

What about protective headgear? lol A group of friends and I were walking out of a building in downtown Shreveport the other night and a Coke bottle that was half full just fell from somewhere beside us.

I think news people should wear them within 150-feet of any vehicle Sherri happens to be driving. DON’T GO THERE!!!

I think most viewers are sitting in their living rooms waiting for the teleprompter operator to screw up…yet again. Tonight’s gesture for him to speed up his “prompting” gave me a case of the chuckles. Though, it may be a good idea to use one that doesn’t look somewhat perverse when viewed through our television sets.
P.S. Thank you to all who put life and limb on the line in an effort to give attorneys an opportunity to profit off of their misfortune. God Bless America and the Code Napoléon!

Ha! TH, thanks for recognizing that for the gesture it was!

This has nothing to do with the above (or below) but I am very interested in finding info on the solar exhibit that was at the 3 boat show. I sent an e to you at 3 with no response. If you can help me on this I will be in debt.
Sorry that this may not be the right forum, but I am attempting to make my house as free of the big “E” systems as I can…
Please help…and again SORRY.
Thanks————Win

That’s okay, Win. I’m sorry I didn’t get your email at work. My email there has been overloaded.
Solar panels: I do have information on that exhibit, but it’s at work and I’ll be in Mansfield all day today.
Either try sending me another email at stalley@ktbs.com, to which I can respond tomorrow, or contact Linda Howard in sales at KTBS. She can put you right in touch with David, who runs the company. You can call her at 861-5800 or email her at lhoward@ktbs.com. Also, search www.ktbs.com for solar panels for more information. Although the actual stories we’ve done on the subject locally have been cached, there’s some good information there.
Happ-E Valentine’s Day!

BTW, please bear with me on the posting photos taken with a cell phone camera. I’m digital camera shopping. Thanks for your patience.

Trey is also required to wear protective mouth gear should he be near any news event, because he is so quick-witted. Actually that is a joke, but thanks for the pic of Mr. Lankford, I wondered where he was/if he was still @ 3.
Oh how I wish how I could share the ‘FASTEST’ comeback/joke I have ever heard, a zinger from none other than Trey himself. I still share it to this day.

Hey Doug, you can share it with us!
And Sher, don’t want to read the rules and regulations to this safety equipment thing but anything to protect your pretty little head has to be good!

Sherri,
Take a look at the Panasonic digital cameras. They have image stabilization, a Leica lens and the one below has a focus assist light for low light situationa. I have had a Panasonic for a few years and have several friends with them as well.

The FZ8 seen in the link above comes in both silver and black.

You can buy it online at places like buy.com, amazon, etc or locally at Wal-Mart, I believe.
I have no financial interest in this, just very happy with my camera and happy to spread the Panasonic joy, lol! A good resource to read when you are considering a new digital camera is Steves Digicams as he has very thorough reviews of just about every camera on the market.

This is the newest model that came out in late July. You’d probably have a hard time finding the one I posted previously.

Thanks, Mel!
Doug, yep. Trey rocks.
MaryS910Says, great camera ref. Thanks. I might have the option of buying back some great Canon A-1 lenses I sold a while back AND they might fit on some new digital Canon cameras. I’m borrowing a friend’s digital get-up to see how I like it all. Do you have a Panasonic? If so, how do you think it compares to the Canons? Still a lot to learn, Sher.

Sherri: You forget to mention that besides where those vests we now have to hold a sign that says “Slow”!
February 15th, 2008 at 8:50 am
Sorry folks it was early.. should have said besides wearing those vests.. we have to hold a sign that says “Slow”. Guess I just proved my point.
February 15th, 2008 at 11:50 am
Do you fill in for school crossing guards too?
February 17th, 2008 at 9:46 pm
Mel, a thing called google & my name prevents me from sharing. Perhaps you could ask Trey yourself, I’m sure he remembers it, if not….shame on you Trey.
February 18th, 2008 at 2:36 pm
I hate to be the one to break it to you “Morning Show Ed” but you are the only one who has to hold the “SLOW” sign…and by the way…it’s called a NAME TAG!!!!!!!!!
LAUGHTER ENSUES….
