Riveria Paradise?
Remember those great outdoor concerts in Shreveport’s Veteran’s Park in the 1970s, where the band played on a cool island-type amphitheatre?  You could sit on a hill that may have previously been a dumping ground (like you’d care if you knew that back then) and see Heart, Stevie Ray Vaughan, A-Train and Michael Martin Murphey.Â
Then people junked-up the area.
There are so many ways to enhance Clyde Fant Parkway to where it could be better enjoyed by all of us. But how?  Shreveport Public Assembly & Recreation peeps and others were taking ideas from the public tonight.  Some of the recommendations in the recreation plan’s second draft include sculptured gardens, a leash-free dog park, information kiosks and connections between the Red River paved trail and the Teague Parkway trail, forming a ten mile loop.Â
Click here to see the plan and let SPAR know what you think.
For our purposes, just curious…do you use Clyde Fant Parkway? For what? What would you like to see there?Â

I very rarely drive down it, but every time I drive by the old park I remember how cool it looked and how neat it would be to be able to go and hang out and watch a concert there since I never did. What a shame.

Ken, why didn’t you? I remember it seeming like a life-or-death situation when asking my parents if I could go. If I didn’t get to go, it would be the end of the world. Then, drama ensued. “If all your friends jumped off a bridge, would you do it, too?” I had to pull out the, “Well, you guys love Sarah…you know she makes straight As…well, her parents said she could go.” Sarah never saw that concert. But I’m pretty sure Sarah’s happily married and has a better job than I do. But you know what? I have rockin’ concert memories!

Another thought: You know how they, “Keep Austin Weird”? Well, if there’s something you want to keep about the parkway…say so! Jeff Wellborn (guru environmentalist) says these efforts are part of keeping that greenspace …well…green.

Every time I saw a concert there, time went by really really slow.

I don’t know when they quit having concerts there but I am 30 and I just remember going there as a kid and walking through the woods and seeing the theater and thinking it was like a different world back there. Why can’t we have more stuff like that Shreveport is big enough to have outdoor concerts and events, I personally don’t enjoy a lot of the ones they have now, but would love to see a legit band play a concert like they have at Austin City Limits.

Ken, you’re younger than Tobey Maguire, who is 33 today.
It was a different world. Going to a concert out there was great!

How come every time we have an outdoor event they have the same bands? At least we could have someone different than the Bluebirds and Rockin Doopsey Junior to play an outdoor event for a change. Different times I guess.

I used to love going down to the river, backing up the pickup, and firing up the grill. We’d take an ice chest full of cold beer and grill steaks. Great memeories of that place.

Create man made beaches on both parkways. Build fishing piers on both sides that extend out into the river. Construct a marina where you can rent boats or jet skis and enjoy a day on the river. Connect the path on Clyde Fant using a pedestrain bridge to the Boardwalk build another pedestrain bridge at the Century Tel Center connecting back to Clyde Fant. Security. Security. Security.

I think I saw Joan Jett there. I rember when Mayor Hussey had to close it down. I guess it needs to be gated somehow. It was very cool.
