Livestock on the Lam
From stray Mexican Roping steer to wandering goats, a occasional news release on the subject will come our way from a parish sheriff’s office.Â
Sometimes loose livestock can present a real hazard to motorists.  But many times, these news releases announce a single small farm animal on the run.  And sometimes an agent is commended for rounding up this loose livestock.  (I’m not judging the livestock here. I know nothing about their social/personal lives. )
Seriously, what if?Â
“In other news, there’s a donkey on the side of the road on Highway 175. If you know who it belongs to, please call the sheriff.” Or, “Farm Bureau agent Joe Blow successfully gathered two chickens and put them back in their pen. Agent Blow, who has 22-years’ experience as a livestock agent, made the roundup with his bare hands.”Â
How do you think we, as a news organization, should handle this information?  Â

If it’s just a single animal, it’s not worth any air time.
If it’s two or more animals, then they might be up to something and it should definitely be reported.

I don’t think we should report it, unless the animal has been run over, and its guts are hanging out on the roadway…that could possibly mess up the new wash/detail job on my car. THEN, THAT’S NEWS.

If it’s just one animal, capture it and have a KTBS BBQ. Unless it’s a wombat of course.

i guess it depends on how slow of a news day it it.

CT, I stole your idea. People were using my coffee creamer, which I keep in the breakroom fridge. So, I put a new label on it. “Wombat Urine Sample” No one’s touched it since.

trish-roadkillthoughts…i think its funny when people prop up dead roadkill with beer bottles in there paws or hoofs….once saw a deer on the side of road with a case of bud under leg…seen lots of armdillas that had a little too much still grippin the bottle or can…

If it stops traffic, it should be on the news. If it was only one animal and that animal was a bull, I imagine it would be pretty entertaining.
