In Sickness and in Help

One of our commenters, HRB, has the flu.  He told me his wife brought him an Icee and Cracker Jacks, which is what our dad used to bring him when he was a little boy.

Is it just the act of someone bringing you something when you feel bad?  Or is it what you’re brought that helps make it all better?  What works for you?

Feel better, HRB!

i used to bring my ex wife hot dr. pepper with a slice of lemon. a jasmine in a bud vase, stolen from the neighbors yard. and wrapped her feet in a hot towel.
and i cant believe im fessin up to this….. but i would also read her to sleep with emily dickenson poems:

    A solemn thing – it was – I said –
    A Woman – White – to be –
And wear – if God should count me fit –
    Her blameless mystery –

I like Thereflu and crossword puzzles when I am sick. HT likes Nyquil and trashy magazines about celebrities.

I don’t think anyone’s “waited” on my when I was sick since I was a kid. I tend to be the caretaker.

When I got sick my family fled in horror. They left town. I’d be home alone and ill.

I like to get everybody around me sick. That way, nobody’s fussing over me! LOL

What way to show friendship than to share, right?

Sorry to be so Polyanna in the midst of people getting other people sick and people fleeing in horror, but I am so deeply touched by the gesture of someone bringing me something when I’m sick, that it doesn’t really matter what it is, I just feel better.

And, HT, if Nyquil still had the stuff in it that would knock you out for the night, that would work, too. But, much like Italian men (in a forced effort to be politically correct) who don’t pinch women on the streets anymore, that’s gone by the wayside.

I’m the same way Sherri. I like to think of myself as a tough guy, but when I’m sick….I want my mama. Any bits of attention and sympathy are greatly needed.

I agree with Sherri, anything would be nice, or even just an offer. But my favorite would be a massage

I like chicken and pimento salad from Fairfield when I’m sick. My sister says mash pototes make her feel better. My husband usually wants something I have to get at a fast food drive through.
