Doll Drama
I’m going to go ahead and assume that toxic Chinese paint is behind the weird things we did when we were kids.
This is how Suzie and I “played Barbies”.
Barbie’s date night consisted of getting wrapped in her evening gown of printed toilet paper, then getting in a tennis shoe (convertable) and driving over to our brother’s (HRB’s) room to pick up G.I. Joe. The plastic couple then drove back to our room for kissing and occasional drama, which was triggered by us not asking HRB for permission to take G.I. Joe on a date. Suzie and I later came to realize that any problems with the relationship were all G.I. Joe’s fault.
What were your favorite toys or games?

Sherri, that is my old Six Million Dollar Man “Steve Austin” Action Figure you are holding. Quite a collector’s item now. He had a “bionic” eye.

My favorite toy memory was when I would use the toilet paper roll as a microphone. In New Orleans, our front porch was about 4 feet high, so I used it as a stage to sing to my loyal fans. Weeds, grass and the occasional beatle in the small 5 x 5 yard! LOL
Oh, and I was good. All the training later led to me winning more than 10 city-wide talent shows and landing a local recording contract!

CT, remember that laser that lit up? I just posted a picture of it.
bc317, what was your favorite Monopoly trinket?
The four of us would play the game Life on rainy days and ride our bikes in circles inside the garage.
I also liked Go Fish, Spit, Trouble, Sorry, Red Rover and playing football in the yard.
Now, I’m a huge fan of Scrabble.

Boy you all had great games.. My Grandma would go around town and pick up left over pieces of wood from constuction sites — sand them down and make blocks to play with. Guess I’m old…..

I loved my big wheel! I was the big tomboy growing up and loved to pedal my big wheel as fast as I could, then throw on the tire brake and try to leave skid marks on the sidewalk. Great fun! Occasionally I played with Barbies and Sherri, mine went on dates, too … except with Starsky and Hutch. They were much shorter than Barbie and her friends, although now I realize that would probably be ‘ideal’ in a guy’s eyes. You can guess where they stood eye level — especially when you’re (unrealistically) built like Barbie!

nooz chic: Your parents rock for buying you a big wheel! What helps you be a better news person and co-worker, a Barbie doll or a toy that helps you maneuver through obstacles, rescue people and kick butt?

bc317: For some odd reason for which I’ve been in counseling for many years, I’ve always wanted the thimble when playing Monopoly.

I have an R. Lee Ermey (drill sgt. in Full Metal Jacket) action figure that curses when you push the button on his back. He would give G.I. Joe a Texas Taxi (a kick in the ass), take Barbie out on a deserted stretch of road, and give that dirty slut what she’s been beggin’ for. Semper Fi!
