Did you get my email? Did you delete it?

computer.jpgI have a new pet peeve.  It’s those notices that pop up when you get an email requesting that you notify the sender you received their email.  They’re ruining the thing we love about email…we get to answer when we have time.   They’re not supposed to know that we read their email, then chose not to answer or chose to wait to respond.

We might as well go back to the phone before call waiting.

Now, we’re being hit with requests to notify the sender as soon as we delete their email!  No.  Not doing that either.  You?

If I get one of those I not only never open an email from them again, I delete them immediately from then on.

It makes me look (judge) at that person in a whole new light. Like the the kid in elementary school who was always telling and checking up on everyone.

i dont get them. must upgrade my system so i do. feel left out. i demand to be as aggrivated as the rest of the world !!

geeze guys…..dont let the little stuff get to ya.

  4. Sherri Says:

tommy, from now on, everytime I get one of those, I’m forwarding it to you. Maybe we can design a response for them that reads, “Sherri received your email, chose not to read it and forwarded it to Tommy, who deleted it.”

  5. tommy Says:

i’ll get right on that as soon as i have my 2nd cup of coffee. retirement rules and regulations say i must sit in my front yard and drink coffee in my lawn chair, during the morning , for at least one hour. im forced to watch little birds and squirrels feeding and gaze at the hot chick nextdoor, jogging. while doing this i am totally unable to worry about e-mail, phone solicitors , ungrateful hurricane refugees or fake bull balls.

There’s a purpose for those read receipts. In the workplace, getting a read receipt eliminates the excuse “I never saw your email”.

  7. Holli Says:

Yeah, I guess that’s one of the great advantages about being a SAHM. No one really cares if you read their email just so long as dinner is ready when it’s supposed to be! haha…(not really) However I have worked at one place where they REQUIRED you to have the auto reply that you received it. How annoying!

  8. Sherri Says:

    Haaaaaaaa…tommy!

jchristie, isn’t that what the sender’s “sent” folder is for? That way he/she can just print out the sent email to the wayward employee with his/her email and the time sent at the top of the page. I’d rather that. This other way feels like micro management for all because a few go the “I never saw your email” route.

  9. Sherri Says:

Holli, what if…take the night off dinner and tell your family you didn’t get their email that they wanted you to make dinner.

  10. jchristie Says:

I guess registered mail isn’t necessary. Who needs a signature that your letter reached it’s destination when you know you bought a stamp and watched the mailman pick it up?

I use it because I’ve missed deadlines because someone claimed they never received my email. I don’t want someone else’s laziness or forgetfulness to be pinned on me.

stop working where you do and find another job. this will eleminate e-mail aggravation….i suggest being a lumberjack! cant get a e-mail in the woods.

    I’m a lumberjack and I’m OK
I sleep all night and I work all day.

I cut down trees, I skip and jump
I like to press wild flowers.
I put on women’s clothing and hang around in bars.

I cut down trees, I eat my lunch
    I go to the lavatory.
On Wednesdays I go shopping and have buttered scones for tea

    see……dont mention e-mail anywhere…..

  12. Sherri Says:

    Good point, jchristie.

    Good point, tommy.

  13. HRB Says:

You can set your email preferences to not give you those.

  14. Todd Says:

Psh! I always say no to those reply things. That way I can sneak out a conflict when I was supposed to read it. I can say… “errr… I never got that email…Do you get a read email receipt? Must be your internet service provider or something.” Yeah… that’s it!

  15. Sherri Says:

Thanks, HRB. In the chaos of work, I didn’t realize that. Maybe I should read what pops up on the screen.

  16. Mel Says:

I hate them too. I do understand why a boss might do it at work but friends should never make friends read receipt!

  17. turtle Says:

So this makes me wonder if you recieved my email about a miracle story for ya. I just assumed you did want it

  18. Terry Heaton Says:

You should never send those; it’s the favorite tool of spammers, because it verifies your email address to them. Also, KTBS employees like Brad, Randy and others have this enabled in every email they send. It’s super irritating.
