Change! It’s a good thing.
I’m in Las Vegas for the 2008 National Association of Broadcasters Show and the Radio Television News Directors Association-Electronic Journalists Convention.  It’s estimated there are some 120-thousand people here from 160 countries. Yesterday I sat next to a young owner of a post production company in Egypt.Â
Some of what I’m learning involves the transition to a digital newsroom. I’d love to share some of that with you in the next few days.Â
I recorded Tim Robbins’ speech yesterday and am in the process of uploading that for you. It was controversial, entertaining and directly hit home in many areas.  Charles Osgood had positive, encouraging things to say about this transition from such a nostalgic era in television into one of endless possibilities.
It makes me proud to see how far KTBS has already come in this transition. We have a lot of work to do and we’re on it. Being a privately-owned entity is a real positive in such a time of change.
And I’m sure it comes as no surprise to you that Hazel and Jimmy are a big hit, especially with the people from CNN. More on that later.    Â

….i woulda figured Hazel and Jimmy would be a big hit with the NPR crowd….they sorta look like Garrison Keillor’s southern kin folk

Uh, can I get a picture of Hazel and Jimmy drinking at the craps table? I live vicariously through them.

I think Hazel and Jimmy will probably be hired to anchor someone’s news show. Keep an eye on them!

Take a picture of Hazel and Jimmy with Anderson Cooper. Then we can see if anyone can tell the difference.
BTW, HRB’s wife is going to have a baby. I guess you could say we are re-talliating.

Oh, and in keeping with the topic….she is going to have a digital delivery.

I miss Hazel and Jimmy - so much. I cried the first day after they left.

Note to Sherri: When you get back, ask Jim Roberts about his quote of the day. Just make sure you end with a snort from Sonja. Actually I think there were three of them.

Will do Lou. Thanks for your concern.
HRB—congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! H&J will have a new cousin!
Hang on, Trish…I have H&J postings. I’m so sorry for posting something of substance relevant to this convention and not keeping you updated on the twins. My bad.
What are all the messages I keep getting about this “Chicken Ranch?”, she said, pretending not to know.

morningguyed: I appointed a ‘quote of the day’ person to record those in my absence. That person was instructed to email those quotes to me here in LV. Guess I’m gonna have to fly back early and tell someone to go outside and practice falling down until I get out there to finish the job.
Of course, I haven’t checked my email yet.

Congrats HRB. Please do not name your child Hazel or Jimmy.

Thanks Mel. What’s wrong with Hazel or Jimmy?

That’s it, HRB. Embrace all that is H&J. Be the H&J.
