Definitely not forgotten

michaeljackson1.jpgWhat a point of contention.

Here are some comments overheard about the network coverage of Michael Jackson’s funeral:

“Question: Would David Brinkley or Walter Cronkite have flown to California to cover the MJ funeral???  Not in a million years!  They were journalists, not freak show announcers.”

“Would the death of Billy Graham be as widely covered?”

Still, thousands were mesmerized by the coverage and offered positive comments, even tears.

Your thoughts?

music-song-lyrics-sheet.jpg“Oh, I’ve never been to Heaven, but I’ve been to Oklahoma.  They tell me I was born there, but I really don’t remember.”

“Your kiss is like the innocence of a prayer nailed to the door.”

“Because you’re mine - I walk the line.”

“So I kicked and I cussed that ole East Texas road - I throwd rocks at my truck which had busted my nose.  You add insult to injury -What do you get?  You get a bus stop full of honkies that don’t ever forget.”

I’m somehow drawn to this and can’t get enough.  Thanks, CT, for the link.  Watch through the drummer, at least.

Happy Birthday????

Monday, October 27th, 2008

I used to get upset when my Uncle Guy would joke at my expense.  Then he said, “Sherri, I’m honoring you!”  And I got it.

Same with this wacky tradition we have in the KTBS newsroom.  Whenever someone has a birthday (I share mine today with KTBS producer Nick Caloway), we celebrate during our afternoon news meeting with a cake and by belting out a version of Happy Birthday that’s so off key, there’s no way anyone would ever have to pay music royalties for mass production of such a beast.  The more off key, the better.

It’s an honor.

So, I’m sure I speak for Nick in saying thanks for what you’re about to hear.  You might want to send the dog out of the room before you turn up the volume.

“I can’t get that song out of my head!”

Thanks, Suzie.  Now I can’t get this song out of my head.  So you guys won’t feel bad about hijacking the previous post, here’s one for you on a topic you’ve already started.  Carry on.
