Awe!
I was in a conversation about movies with a couple of guys who are funny and as heterosexual as can be. Suddenly, when talk turned to certain male actors, I heard descriptions I’d never heard before and was momentarily puzzled.
So I fetched my Urban Dictionary (a friend to those of us who spend way too much time in Geekdom).
Aha! Just what I thought:
Man crush: When a straight man has a “crush” on another man, not sexual but kind of idolizing him.
Bromance: Describes the complicated love and affection shared by two straight males.
I love these words! They sort of make it cool and okay to break down those old social barriers that make it tough for men to express affection toward one another.
I think if I were a man, it would be tough for me not to have a man crush on Ryan Reynolds or Johnny Depp. You?

Not sure I’d call it a “crush”. The phrases do have a certain “I’m-not-gay-just-’like’-the-guy” safety net for those needing such a thing. I have a lot of respect for a lot of other guys and for some, would probably get all goofy (more so than normal) and a bit star struck if I were to meet them (Denzel Washington, Morgan Freemon, Sean Hannity, Gene Hackman, Gerry May), but I’m sure I wouldn’t have shivers go up my leg, like some. Guess I’m more in touch with my feminine side than some, but not as much as others
But, I guess I could get involved in a “bromance” with guys…just not ready to say I have a “man-crush”! (wife might get jealous!!!)

2.) Anthony Kiedis
3.) Daniel Day-Lewis
Duh.

I am straight, but I admire some men. Is that the same as a crush or is it a little envy? Of course some guys would never let it out that they had a “Man Crush”, unless it was clear that it was only an admiration. I see guys all the time at work or in the gym that I admire their achievements and set some of my goals toward those achievements. I have good friends and I have best friends, men and women. I also have crushes on women, but I can’t say I have any Man Crushes.

Just my 2 cents

Not sure Sherri would qualify as a “man-crush”…never noticed anything ‘manly’ about her

I’ve never seen this Ryan Reynolds fella until now and I quickly developed a crush on him! It would certainly be understandable if men developed a man crush on him, too!

Thanks for the gender shout-out, Robby. You have to know LindsAy’s sense of humor!
Sonja, you need to see “The Proposal”!!

Just calls ‘em as I sees ‘em! By the way, Ryan IS the one on the left, right?

I’m no man, but I don’t think “Ryan Renolds” is “all that.”

I’ve always admired John Wayne, Dean Martin, and Clint Eastwood but never had any desire to swap spit, hold hands or share intimate stories with any of them.

Jerry Seinfeld. But I’m not gay… Not that there is anything wrong with that.

Off the subject slightly, but any man who loves dogs is attractive to me.

ok sherri….got to hijack the topic here……
just wondering to myself a little.
question: would david brinkley or walter cronkite have flown to california to cover the MJ funeral???
not in a million years! they were journalists and not freak show announcers.

tommy, you don’t have to hijack. I’ll start up a topic for you. There’s a lot of talk about that.

Does anyone remember when Ryan Reynolds was on two guys and a pizza?
July 8th, 2009 at 4:40 pm
Mel, I want to slap your face.

I could easily have a bromance with Ryan Reynolds, George Clooney or Denzel Washington. I could probably come up with a couple others if I thought about it.
They seem interesting and quite cool guys who would be fun to hang around with.
Cheers

Lindz, it was a cute show. The blond girl on there ended up on “Monk” and the other guy has done movies and tv.

Burt Reynolds is way cooler than Ryan Reynolds.

Reynold’s Wrap is not too shabby, either…
