Job Position:  Evening Studio Floor Director/Production Assistant

Known on the air as:  Celestial Expert Sid Shirer

Hometown:  Elk City, OK

Hidden talents (besides being able to change studio light in a minute flat!):  Drawing, photography, mechanical drawing/drafting, writing, teaching myself guitar

Inspiration:  The late Carl Sagan

Goal:  To start certification process for pilot’s license (soloed in a Cessna 152 on 16th birthday).

Family:  Mom-Marty, Sister-Trish

The Stars:  My interest in astronomy took off when I bought my first telescope and I saw the planet Jupiter and its four large moons.  This was the summer of 1985.  I learned the constellations and names of the brightest stars on my own.  I would say that 90% of what I know I’m self taught.  I volunteered at SPAR Planetarium for 13-years, teaching astronomy and telling stories of the night sky to school kids.

The RC Planes:  I’ve been around radio control planes most of my life.  My dad built and flew them and I have pictures of me standing next to him and a “new” plane at the age of 3.  I got my first r/c kit when I was 7 or 8 and the first time I flew it, I was hooked!  Like my dad, I build kits and fly for the enjoyment.  Currently, I own about 20 planes.  When I was 13, I designed and built my own plane from scratch.  Flying R/C is an escape from the day-to-day worries of life.

Sherri says, “I have never worked with a more professional, respectful person in all my life.”
