Content, Happy, Downright Giddy?

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

Forbes.com has released 12 things that make us happy.  Well, they didn’t actually release those things.  If they did, wow…I mean, world peace and such.  It was sort of a survey.  What makes you happy?  How about a top 3?

Pranks Please

Friday, February 15th, 2008

The penguin prank in Mansfield was so well executed.  Suzie Talley was the queen of effective pranks when she was in college.  Hey, LindsAy, remember when I kidnapped your cow and sent you ransom notes and pictures?

Safety first!

This is KTBS Operations Manager Trey Lankford modeling one of the recent federally mandated safety vests we, as reporters, are being told to wear if we report within 150-feet of a federally-aided highway.  It’s tuff readin’, but if you want more, go here.

Of course, we all want to be safe and we want that for our fellow workers, but some of us in the newsroom couldn’t help but think about how viewers might sit in their living rooms discussing the vests and such instead of listening to what we’re reporting.

And why not, while we as a society are making money for attorneys and those who file suit, extend those safety guidelines to include parking lots?  Lots of unsafe things happen there.

As I write, I’m wearing one of those vests, safety goggles, a helmet and knee and elbow pads.

Trust me, I’m a reporter.

Afriad to post a comment here?  Not sure how?  Some people have told me they’re not quite sure they trust this process.   They say they read postings and comments, but are hesitant to comment.  This might help:

–You don’t have to reveal your real name.

–Your email address won’t be revealed.

–I don’t know everyone who registers a comment and I don’t revel the identities of those I do know, unless they have first identified themselves on this site.

–To comment, simply click on the orange square with the number in it and follow the instructions at the bottom of the comments.

–Jump in.  It’s fun.

In between working for KTAL and KTBS, I became a professional photographer for a very short time, with a crash-course in training from Dr. Eddie Shell, formerly of BPCC.  He and his wife welcomed Casey and me into their home one summer to learn as much as possible.  My son was my practice target.  I taught him how to shoot and he would help me on my photo sessions with children.  This is all the past.  I’m trying now to learn all the digital stuff.  This was old school Cannon A-1 stuff that’s been scanned.  Click on “Photos I took!”

Several of you asked about CT after his surgery to remove what we affectionately refer to on this site as “squirrels in the attic”.  He’s apparently doing well and is back to being rad.  Way to go, CT!  Â
