Rats!

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

Moments before I was about to take Suzie’s advice, which was to order coyote urine on the internet and spray it in the attic to discourage squirrels from partying there, I invited a nice man with an extermination company to take a look in the attic.   This is what he found.  Roof rats.  Lots of them.

When I asked him how big they were, and his hands spanned wider than a foot, I said, “Excuse me, I think I’m gonna be sick.”  Then, my thoughts wandered to just how they get all that urine out of coyotes, and I was okay again.

I happen to know many of you have excellent rodent stories we’ll all enjoy!

Where are they now?

You’ve been asking about former KTBS news and weather personalities.   Here’s a pic of Janine D’Adamo when we were having dinner in Dallas several years ago.   She now has twins.

Former KTBS anchor/reporter Craig Day is at KOTV in Tulsa, OK.  He and his wife just had their fourth child.

Former KTBS morning anchor Macie McInnis Jepson was in town recently.  She’s anchoring in Dallas at WFAA with former KTBS reporter Jeff Brady, who is married now with three kids.

Former KTBS anchor/reporter Charles Hadlock is with MSNBC in Dallas.

Doug Fernandez is anchoring in Albuquerque, NM.

Former KTBS anchor/reporter Krysty O’Quinn is married and has a new baby and is in PR in Albuquerque, NM.

Just got an email from Marc Prescott, who used to report in the KTBS Texarkana bureau.   He said after five years of working at the CBS affiliate in San Diego, he helped start nursetv.  www.nursetv.com.

I’m Ver-E Sorry!

Ever had to say that because you accidentally sent an email or a text message to an unintended recipient?  Do you know that anxiety rush after you hit send and realized what just happened?  In this day of fast communication, mistakes like this happen more often.  I don’t think I’ve ever accidentally addressed a hand-written letter to the wrong person.  There’s just more time to think about it.  Suzie and rt, in particular, have great stories to share on this subject.

And the winner is…

HRB!  With 43% of the vote, the new tagline for this site is, “sherritalley.com:  Because sherritalleywaggonerallenallentalley is just too damn long”

Congratulations, HRB.  As soon as I get them designed, you’ll be receiving a t-shirt with the new tagline on it.

Thank you all for your extremely witty suggestions and for voting.   I’m going to have to remove the poll itself from this site because it’s messing with the site, but your original suggestions will remain.   Wow, that was fun!

Before we get to the tagline winner and the 80s pic of me some of you are pressuring me to post, here’s a little diversion.  My co-anchor at KTBS www.ktbs.com is Gerry May.  He came here from Boise, Idaho.  After he was here for about a year, he and I were talking and realized that not only were we attending the same elementary school in OKC at the same time, we lived around the corner from one another.  Gerry’s mother sent him this year book from Western Village School, 1970-71.  It’s a small world.

No Teeth Required

I found the world’s best barbeque ribs at a place called Shankcat’s “No Teeth Required” in Frierson, Louisiana.  I’m not being paid to say this.  I swear, all you have to do is glance at the ribs and the good stuff just falls off of them.  Pictured is the owner, Bobo Scott.  I’m the one on the left without the antlers.

Talley Tagline

Will you help me come up with a tagline?  You know, like in Jaws 2:  “Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water…”.  River City Cycling has a cool one:  “It’s never too late to have a happy childhood.”  SB Magazine has:  “Always interesting, sometimes controversial.”  We could have:  “Always controversial, sometimes interesting.”  Ha.  Anyway, there’s an abundance of wit amongst you and I sure could use your help.  Any ideas?

Who is this?

“I can get rad on my Redline.” –CT, 7 years old

CT is bringing rad back and some 30 years later, is buying a BMX.  That’s how he rolls.  Remember the bike you had when you were a kid?  Suzie and I had matching Schwinns with banana seats.  Hers was 70s olive green and mine was blue.  We just rode around the neighborhood.  Suzie rides around the world now.

Animal House

You know those members of your family who don’t really carry their weight around the house…they just hang out and eat?  Tell us about your pets.  This is Spuff.  As you can see, she’s carrying her weight.  Anyway, she often gets on the neighbor’s roof and I have to use a big painting to get her down.  Really, freezing rain, tornadoes…she won’t come down on her own.  I lean the painting at an angle toward the roof and she slides down.
